People who benefit from full surround systems generally aren’t asking—they’re already researching which specific speakers and receivers to buy.

    For everyone else? Get a quality soundbar in the $600-1,200 range. Spend money on a good subwoofer if bass matters to you. Consider adding wireless surrounds later if you find yourself wanting more immersion. You’ll get 85% of the performance with 10% of the hassle, and that math makes sense for the vast majority of home audio setups.

    The perfect is the enemy of the good enough. And in home audio, “good enough” has gotten remarkably good.
